Just trying to resolve my photo problem.

As you can see above, the problem of sending photo's is now resolved.

As is usually the way, the problem is not the tool but the one that's using it. I read blogger help and found that blogger will only allow images up to 250kb's.  I found the settings for the phone camera and it seems that the camera on the HTC Desire is better than i thought and the images i had been taking and trying to send were all around 900kb. So now that i have reduced the quality below 250kb's the image has finally made it's way through the revolving doors of cyberspace, collected £200 and not gone to jail.
The image is not too bad either considering this one is only 109kb.

Well that's another bit of techno learning curve well and truly learn't.

Technical Hitch

For some reason or other my phone has decided it doesn't want to send photos right now and will only send text. Sorry about this as i really wanted to share a wonderful sunset picture.
I have no idea what the problem is. The sent post ends up in my drafts folder but it has no info attached. I will look into it when i get home on Monday.
Possibly i may have overdone my allowance.

Last night believe it or not was extremely gale force and we did get some rain but its warm stuff and it doesn't matter. You don't get wet in the pub.

We are enjoying our short break. Pity its only a week. Good to see some old friends though.

I have a couple of gear reviews/posts to finish when i get back home. So plenty to do.

Martin, enjoy your Cumbria trip and i will have a look at your photographs of the last trip as well soon.

Blackberry blogging

My Blackberry Curve was bought more or less because i had read good things about it and quite a lot of more experienced bloggers were using it.
My first attempts at blogging with it were a disaster as i just couldn’t get it set up properly.

The Mobile Blogging page on the blogger site was no help as it is written for people living in the USA.

In comparison to Sheila’s HTC Desire the Blackberry was second rate.
Everything we wanted to do was easily accomplished with the HTC whereas the Blackberry was long winded and you never have the feeling that what you have done is correct.
We just seemed to be on the same wavelength with the HTC whereas months down the line i am still unsure with the BB.

I managed eventually to get the BB to accept new posts to my blog via emails and with the odd photograph. Nothing too spectacular though.
I was certainly not in the same league as Martin Banfield whose blog is here. or Mick and Gayle who’s blog is here. They didn’t seem to be having any problems with writing long posts with numerous photo’s, whilst on the move and on long trips.

One of the problems i had, was that when i mobile googled my blog and signed in i couldn’t answer comments or write up a new post, but i could make a new entry via email. Very strange.
I asked both Martin and Gayle if they could shed any light on the problem but alas they posted via email too instead of using the blog page as if you were sat in front of your Mac or PC.

I eventually put it down to me being thick and i resigned my self to posting via email or not bothering at all as it was all getting a bit tedious.
Also, one of the issues with mobile blogging is battery life. It certainly drains the battery quickly and drains the will to live too.

Then today whilst playing around with the phone menu’s i noticed that some tick boxes were not enabled. Eureka i thought, am i onto making a break through here.
I ticked the boxes and went on my blog. The comments box was lit up for the very first time and allowed the cursor to make text. It worked!
I have managed to write posts, to comment and answer comments. Fantastic.

So for those that have had issues like i have explained above, here this is what i did.
From the BB homepage go to the browser and highlight it.
Press the Blackberry button (the one with 7 dots)
Go to options and press.
Go to Browser configuration and press.
Enable, (tick) Support JavaScript
Press the return key (right of centre) and save the changes made.

I hope that this resolves your problem with blogging on the move and prevents you throwing the phone through the window. At least for now anyway.

Smart phones

If these new phones, ie Blackberry Curve are supposed to be "SMART" then why can't they set themselves up.
It's been so close to going through the window. Been trying to set this up for about 5hrs.
I can't get the apps to download because it says email not approved,  but blackberry says it is.......its a nightmare.
Can't get blogger working. Have sent Bloggr email, sms and mms but to no avail. It just rejects any attempt to communicate.

Its probably something simple but that might be just me! Ha.

It might be going back to Orange very soon.

Any tips gratefully accepted.

HTC Desire phone

I (sheila) have to say that i am very impressed with the new HTC Desire phone.  It does everything we desire. pun

The Digital compass is very clear and precise as Alan has checked it against his silva compass.  The maps are very clear and the free gps works.  He must be sick of me saying OMG this is wonderful.  We have also tried blogging and this is fine and the emails work great.

It is such an easy phone to use, once you understand the principle of the android system.  There are loads of free apps and after ten hours of playing, i have decided to keep it instead of going for the apple.  The only disappointing thing was that with it being an Android phone i expected it to be delivered by R2D2 and it wasn't. HeHe.

More blogging phone stories

Prior to Sheila getting an iphone on her contract renewal, she has got an HTC Desire, just to try for a couple of weeks. Does anybody have an opinion on this phone and is it a decent blogging phone?
It looks the business and i am envious but i would like to hear from anybody who blogs with it so that we can make a decision if to stay with it.
We have decided not to use a phone as a mountain GPS, so that issue has been put to bed, thankfully.
Any assistance would be most welcome.

More phone issues.

Below is a message i received from View Ranger digital mapping for mobiles support. As a number of people could be considering this option after the positive review in Feb TGO magazine i thought i would share the content. If you are not a techie like me, it might be helpful. (Thanks to View Ranger help guys)

You WILL need some sort of GPS (internal or external Bluetooth) for the phone to work with ViewRanger.
Phones with internal GPS (like the Nokia 5800) work perfectly fine.  It could be argued as a Bluetooth GPS costs more (on top of the cost of the phone) it will be more accurate, and battery life on the phone would also last longer (as it is not powering the GPS).  But you can buy a phone with internal GPS and still use a Bluetooth external GPS anyway.

The Phone.

Well after many weeks of deliberation the phone i chose was the Samsung Omnia HD. So i went into town to purchase the said item and guess what. NOBODY sold it! Absolutely none of the big providers contract it or sell it.
I will have to choose another. I'm sick as a parrot.

Which Blogging phone?

I need the help of you guys who have mobile blogged for ages and are familiar with the good and bad points of the latest gizmo's.
We are due a phone upgrade in April and as we don't currently blog on the go, we thought we would give it a go this time.

We have quite a bit of Apple tech so the iphone is our 1st thought. However, we believe it's not the best to take on treks as you cannot switch batteries and the GPS is not that great either.

We were thinking that one piece of kit could do everything ie,  phone, camera, blog and GPS but we are sceptical that this is the right way to proceed. Jack of all trades but master of none.

Any help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
