Hollingworth Lake - a short amble.

 Thursday 29th April 2021.

A bright but very cold breezy day had us ambling around Hollingworth Lake. We were so early that our car was the first on the visitor centre carpark. Parking fees were reasonable, £2 for 4 hours.

Its been a while since we have been on the lake circuit and luckily it was very quiet. Kids back in school would have cut numbers of visitors drastically.

Depending which direction you looked the clouds were completely different, one way black and full of rain which is predicted for later and looking north, nice bright fluffy clouds.

There is a hide on the lakeside which we went into and observed many species of birds including, Heron, Swan, Canada Geese, Common Sandpiper, Mallard, Coot, Moorhen and more.

The adjacent backpackers campsite is still closed and will not open until mid summer at the earliest.

Here are a few images i took on the 5km route we took.

  1. Interesting photos, and memories of me and my younger brother racing our Merlin Rocket there back in the 60s. Sadly Nick is no longer with us.
