The South Loch Ness Trail

I was very interested to read that the south side of Loch Ness has now been opened up for walkers.

So as my walking exploits are having to take a bit of a back seat for a while, i decided to copy the article from OutdoorsMagic and give it some more free advertising.

It’s certainly a great addition to the area and may be of interest to TGO Challengers during the planning stage of the walking route.

  1. Ah, shingles! Saw the hint on Mike's blog and you've confirmed it on Martin's, that's truely pants! I had shingles when I was ten and my son when he was about twelve, so I can sympathise. Supposedly, it's not so bad if you are young, although rarer, (I like to be different...) but the nerves are still damaged and occasionally even now, my back aches along my scars. Hope you caught yours sooner as I did my son's and you got the anti-virals in good time, they really help. Good luck!

  2. The South side is definitely the nicer side of Loch Ness to drive along, and now with the trail, the Great Glen Way is much more appealing.

  3. Hi Louise,
It’s not nice. Like you know, getting treatment early is needed which i have done. Just time now, and see how it progress’s.
    Thanks.

That is so painfully funny. It reminds of .... No mustn’t go there, docs tomorrow.

  9. Sorry to hear about the shingles Alan and hope you have a full and speedy recovery.

Trails? You probably know me well enough to know that I'm not a fan. I'll use them to link things though, so I suppose I'm a hypocrite!

  10. Hi Gibson,
I don't mind what they call them. As long as i am walking, that's fine. We did enjoy the Rob Roy way which is a trail i suppose.

Went to docs today. They (2 of them) were umming and arring over whether it was shingles or something else. Thats 2 different ones than i saw last week who did something similar.
Eventually they decided to accept the decision of the short straw and said "Yes it's definitely shingles". That took 40 minutes! Thankfully i wasn't dying and didn't need oxygen.

  11. Hi Alan,

Depending on the timing of my hand surgery next year, we'll be using a bit of the RRW to Killin after crossing the hills from Crieff on our planned walk from home to, as yet, an unknown destination.

I hope you recover quickly and get back out walking asap.

  12. We enjoyed the Killin route and then we diverted up Ben Lawers rather than the the route south of Loch Tay.
Like any route you can make it what ever you want.
