Scotland 2015.

Our family trip to Scotland was to say the least wet and windy. Two weeks of it in fact. I think it was the worst weather i have encountered in Scotland at this time of year.
We expect poor weather and if we get any good weather then it is a bonus. That how we looked at the trip prior to starting out. We never let the weather get us down and we were out in it as much as possible.
Our first week was on Skye and the second week was in Mellon Charles near Aultbea and Poolewe.

I have taken hundreds of photo’s, as is now the norm with a digital camera and it’s taken me some time to pick out what i consider to be decent ones. I have put together a side show of (sorry) 94 images, that for me tell the story of our journey and show Scotland at its most beautiful and best. I have kept “Family” shots to a minimum after all this is a blog about Landscape.

All the shots were taken with a Sony compact camera. The Hx9v. I am no expert photographer.

  1. It certainly was the wild, wild west Alan but I think like us you made the best of what was thrown at you. That's a good shot but I can't view the slideshow at the moment unfortunately. Not many of us on here are 'expert' photographers but yours are as good as any.

  2. There's some crackers among those shots, Alan; including quite a few with blue skies! One of the good things about digital is that these modern sensors seem able to make the most of the available light.

I've tried using manual selections for settings, but to be honest the results are rarely better than I get with just pointing and shooting on 'Auto'. Chris Townsend would be mortified.

    1. Thanks Dave.
Yes we did have occassional blue skies. We had some stunning cloud scapes and sheets of rain.
I do tend to try manual settings as well as taking auto shots of the same subject. To be honest i agree with you auto is good enough.

    1. Thanks Martin. Well there is no point in having good waterproofs and not use them. Although it was great just watching the weather change from our window.

  4. Brilliant. The wild weather just enhances the photos. It makes me think I have been wasting my time thrashing round the edge of crop fields and battling head high nettles down the country for three weeks. I must get back up there again. As good a selection of photos of "the best region in the world" as I can recall. Do you use the panorama function on your camera or stitch them together afterwards with some software?

    1. Wow. Thanks. You are right of course, photogrsphy is about light and contrast. We certainly had lots of diferent moods, minute by minute.
The panorama on the Sony is excellent and that was what was used. I have a Panasonic Lumix too but the panarama function is not as good. The new models may be better.
I don't use editing software very much apart from crop and straighten.
