I have some photographs but to be honest this video says it all. Very very frightening at times with the lightening. The storm was ferocious for 10 hours and went on for 24 hours. The scene is devastation in lots of places. Emergency services pumping out homes and hotels etc. A state of emergency has been called.
The sea is brown not blue and hotel swimming pools are full of mud.
Sheltering against a wall as the wind and rain was intense. The silence of this photo is deafening.
Post the storm with sun beds deep in mud.
Lucky you weren't camping! Frightening
ReplyDeleteWe would have been washed away for sure.
DeleteWe had exactly the same last year in Kefalonia for about 18 hours. How our villa didn't flood I'll never know. And the storm is so close over head that the noise of the thunder is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteHi John. I have been going to Kef for 33 years and had many a fantastic spectacle from electric storms, especially in hot June. The rain can be heavy to say the least but the locals say that this was the worst they can remember, To have an 18 hour storm with such heavy prolonged rain last year should have been still stuck in their memory. I also went last year, but we had nothing as bad as this. The thunder was so loud it is impossible to describe.
DeleteTo think that man has any chance of changing nature with wind turbines is bordering on insanity, but thats another story.
PS. I emailed you to your gmail account a couple of weeks ago, did you get it?
That is scary stuff Alan.
ReplyDeleteToo right Dawn. In places it was possible to swim down the main road.
DeleteJust caught up with you after finishing my tame English walk. Glad I wasn't on a backpacking trip there. What was the rest of the "holiday" like?
ReplyDeleteWeather mixed but minimum temp 21C. We love the place and the people and we will be back next year. Home today so will catch up with your exploits asap.
DeleteWow! Good job you've both got an adventurous spirit. The main thing is that you are both OK.
ReplyDeleteI think the adventurous spirit was probably Ouzo. At the time we didn’t realise it was going to be as bad as it got and we went out for a walk in it. The forecast said light thundery showers.
ReplyDeleteHmmm!
ReplyDeleteHmmm?
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better. You missed a good walk today...
ReplyDeleteGetting there Martin. Probably another couple of days. I was quite looking forward to the walk especially with the weather being so good.
