Midges

There is a new midge spray out called Incognito. It works by masking the odour that we give off, that the midge is supposedly attracted to.
It says that the fragrance is so strong that the midge just "Fly bye"and don't land on the skin.

Well if it works it will be great. Has anybody tried it?  I would be interested to hear if you have.

  1. I hope it does Alan but I have a feeling that it will be yet another triumph of hope over fact! The manufacturers will make a fortune if they have really found the magic substance at last. Although, like The Borg, the midges will just 'adapt'!

  2. Hi Gibson,
If i was a gambling man i would put my money on you being right. But we need to be hopeful that one day some company will get it right.
I will probably buy a bottle and give it a try.
When i was browsing through TGO mag i noticed another new spray called Smidge. Developed by Scottish scientists. Now this one must work, mustn't it?

  3. Always worth a try, but don't the midges key mainly on exhaled carbon dioxide?.
I'll probably try it, at the moment I use Mosiguard which is quite good but has never been tested against a full Scottish attack.

  4. Hi Geoff, Thanks for your comment. According to the data sheet this repellant masks carbon Dioxide as well as other Kairomones.
We can but try and hope.
We had a very bad attack of the midge in Scotland recently so we will give anything new a try but as Gibson has said, they may just adapt.

Charley Boorman has said that it worked for them on the trip they did across Africa. So here's hoping it works for us.
